Black Lives Matter.
Systemic racism has existed in the U.S. for 400 years, resulting in Black people being targeted and marginalized simply because they are Black. Recent events have amplified this injustice and inspired us to renew our commitment to racial justice. We stand in solidarity with the Black community.
Our vision of communities that are fair and just includes social, economic, health, and racial justice. Our mission – the very foundation of Advocates– is about service and social justice.
Violence, racism, and other acts of oppression have no place in the Advocates Community, or the communities in which we live. We are dedicated to inclusion and racial equity. We are committed to deep listening and continuous learning. We are ready to look within and do the individual and organizational work necessary to unpack white privilege and dismantle white supremacy culture.
But words are not enough. We must ACT NOW to combat racism in the Advocates Community, and beyond. The time is now!
We invite all in the Advocates community to join us on this journey. Our Diversity Advisory Council and Senior Leadership Team Diversity Subcommittee are actively working on a Racial Justice Action Plan. More information will follow.
