Opal Stone, Director of Reentry Services at Advocates, presented on a panel at the 2016 National Council for Behavioral Health Conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Co-panelists included Mary Brolin from the Institute for Behavioral Health at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and Dan Mistak from Community Oriented Correctional Health Services.

The panel, Building an Effective Behavioral Health, Corrections, and Public Safety Collaboration to Reduce Criminal Recidivism, discussed the collaboration between public safety and behavioral health organizations and their joint efforts to implement a model to reduce criminal re-offense. The presentation taught viewers how to convene and create a solutions-focused collaborative structure, identify community strengths and needs, use data-driven decision-making to bolster collaboration, and implement a reentry model.

Opal Stone leads the Worcester Initiative for Supported Reentry (WISR), a partnership-based project that creates safer and healthier communities by reducing criminal recidivism among men returning to the community from jail and prison.

The National Council for Behavioral Health serves 10 million adults, children, and families living with mental illnesses and addictions, and has 2,500 member organizations. Their mission is to advance members’ ability to deliver integrated health care.
