Internships

Communications Internship

Advocates is currently seeking a Communications Intern. This opportunity is designed for rising seniors and graduate students who wish to work in the communications facet of a fast-paced and challenging non-profit environment. This position will work toward improving internal communication throughout the organization by researching methods, identifying root causes of miscommunication, implementing procedures and exercising creativity.

Responsibilities:

  • Work towards improving internal communication within the organization.
  • Research and develop proposals regarding alternative methods of communication to determine what options may align with our needs.
  • Assess what information should be shared with which departments/individuals and how to best broadcast such information.
  • Ensure that all staff members have proper access to resources as needed.
  • Review existing e-mail distribution lists for accuracy, create new lists as needed.
  • Create organizational flowcharts.
  • Provide basic administrative functions as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Senior-level student or graduate student.
  • Minimum of one year experience in communications (learned or worked).
  • Ability to learn as well as provide educated guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of communications as a whole and ability to effectively target and strengthen processes’ weaknesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize accordingly and think independently.

Undergraduate Internships

Advocates offers undergraduate level internships to students with a wide range of majors including, Psychology, Social Work, Marketing, Communications, and Human Services.  Internships are available in a variety of settings including:

  • Residential Services
  • Mental Health
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Brain Injury Services
  • Autism Services
  • Marketing & Communication
  • Fundraising
  • Day Habilitation Services

Undergraduate level interns are accepted on a rolling basis, but typically run for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Graduate Internships

Graduate level internships are available to students with majors including Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work.  Graduate level internships in a variety of settings to include:

  • Outpatient Services
  • Psychiatric Emergency Services
  • Residential Services
  • Outreach Services
  • Elder Community Care
  • In-Home Therapy
  • Adult Family Care

Our internship supervisors are Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers or Licensed Mental Health Clinicians. Students interested in Fall placements must submit a resume and cover letter no later than March 1st.
